Abstract

This essay points out some aspects that may be relevant for future research on the theological thinking of Milton Schwantes, especially his reflections on ecumenical, social, and political issues. Such reflections are articulated with the exegetical efforts that the author has made throughout his career as a research professor. Based on the participation of Schwantes in the affords of the Ecumenical Center for Documentation and Information (CEDI), especially those written in the renowned magazine Time and Attendance , ( Tempo e presence ) are indicated some of his emphasis. They are organized considering three major points for the revision of the theological method: the tension between the poor and the ecclesial institutions, the tension between the popular and academic dimensions of the the Bible reading and the tension between rationality and subjectivity which marks the theological debate today.
