Abstract

The article discusses the possibility of using film dialogue lists for creating dictionaries of the contemporary Polish language. It turns out that a lexicographer may find a lot of rare, substandard or forgotten words in them. Screenwriters use this kind of vocabulary for stylistic purposes, but they take it from authentic language. They are especially interested in sociolects which are often poorly researched. Because of that, film dialogue lists should be incorporated into text corpora which are exploited by editors of dictionaries. Theoretical findings were completed by analyses of some rare words taken by the author from a popular Polish TV series “07 Come In” (07 zgłoś się).
