Abstract

Family issues, including the various faces of motherhood, are of particular interest to sociological, pedagogical and psychological sciences. This fact is confirmed by the observation of new, contemporary behaviors and attitudes appearing more and more often in this sphere of life. The author set herself the goal of examining the perception of motherhood and learning how women assess the role of the family of origin in the process of growing up/maturing to motherhood. To do this, a group of female respondents was surveyed in terms of expressed declarative indicators: felt emotions, fears of motherhood, plans for shaping a family or decisions made in the area of marital and family life. The implementation of the assumed goal and the answer to the formulated problem questions are included in the process of reasoning, which consists of an introduction to the issue through the analysis of motherhood, the process of maturing to it and the conditions affecting this process, and then the analysis of own research indicating the importance of the family of origin on the formation of attitudes towards motherhood. Their results are in line with the trends emerging from nationwide research indicating that it is the family as the basic educational environment that is decisive for shaping women's attitudes towards motherhood. Keywords: woman, family; marriage, motherhood.
