Abstract

This article aims at reconstructing the outlines of the categorical thread leading from qualitative infinity up to quantitative infinity in Hegel’s Doctrine of Being. Thus, departing from the last concept of Quality, Being-for-itself, the paper rushes on to delineate the concepts of Continuous, Discrete, Extensive and Intensive Magnitudes, in order to elucidate, in the end, some important aspects of Quantum, Infinite Progress and Quantitative Infinity. The premise set out here as a departure point for the investigation is that infinity ought to express a qualitative moment within quantity. If this is so, then we are led to ask ourselves if there is indeed for Hegel a quantitative infinity in a strict sense and how much it differs from qualitative infinity.
