Abstract

This article analyses the short story At the Pit's Mouth by english writer Joseph Rudyard Kipling, assuming that it belongs to the fantastic literature. First of all, present a brief biography of the writer. Next, we have described the maincharacteristics of the concepts of “fantastic” and “weird” presented by Tzvetan Todorov in the book Introducao a literatura fantastica, which will be supplemented by the ideas of other theorists. Finally, we analyze the selected text through these theoretical references.
