Abstract

This article aims to discuss the reform of the secular clergy planned by the Jacobeu bishops in Portuguese America. Thus, the origin of the spirituality chain called Jacobeia will be briefly examined, as well as the role played by the forerunner of the chain, Friar Francisco da Anunciação, and the main directives of the movement in order to glimpse the influences of these principles considering the model of a perfect clergy outlined by these prelates and the measures aimed at the reform and discipline of secular clergy.
