Abstract

The study is part of the research line “Practices and formative processes in Education”, from Graduate Program in Education – Master, Faculty of Science and Technology, FCT/UNESP, Campus Presidente Prudente. Its objective was to investigate the contributions of Webquest “Traveling through masterpieces” in geometric shapes teaching for children of Elementary School 2nd year. Its contribution was to broaden comprehension about computer usage in math's learning of 6-8 years old students. It is an intervention research, developed with 12 students from Elementary School 2 nd year of “Colegio de Aplicacao Joao XXIII”, school of Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF), “Juiz de Fora” city, “Minas Gerais” state. The collected data showed that only the Webquest “Traveling through masterpieces” was not enough to the children to experience the four processes that should be present and articulated in geometry teaching: perception, construction, representation and conception. It was possible to work both perception and ability to visualize geometric shapes. However, construction and representation of these shapes was only possible through articulating Webquest and usage of concrete materials, planning, drawings and narratives production, leading the students to make progress in Van Hiele levels of geometric thinking, from basic level, where the space is only observed, to the level one, when they start to discern geometric shapes characteristics.
