Abstract

“The chinese dilemma: assertiveness for a harmonious world?” it aimed to demonstrate how China acts internally and externally in order to pursue its main objective, to be a superpower with international parity with the US. China’s assertive attitude has been a means to an end - a harmonious world order for Chinese interests. Therefore, this work demonstrates the dichotomy that exists between the Chinese rhetoric of a peaceful rise and the masked assertiveness in the form of cooperation. Chinese rhetoric proved to be effective in the first phase of ascension, however, nowadays, Chinese actions are diametrically opposed to his speech, which is why they have increasingly created negative perceptions and defensive reactions from other actors in relation to this one. The rise of an actor like Beijing brings new structural changes that make the complexion of the international system and its distribution of power quite different, so it becomes relevant to analyze the reemergency of a superpower like China.
