Abstract

This article describes the trajectory of the Course of Pedagogy of the Regional University of Blumenau, its establishment, in 1968, historical aspects regarding its management and goals. The article concludes with a description of projects regarding the curriculum and pedagogical proposals which have been developed until the present days. This historical review is the result of interviews and testimonies as well as consultation to primary sources such as reports, minutes, legal resolutions and documents. The course began with the degrees of School Administration (primary, secondary and high school) and Teaching in pedagogical subject matters. After this, in 1975, the degree of Educational Guidance was offered and, in 1986, School Supervision. Always bearing in mind social demands, in 1990, the degree of Teaching to Pre-school (Kindergarten) and First to the Fourth Year (primary) was created; nonetheless, constantly undergoing adjustments according to the Law 9394/96. Currently, this degree is called Teaching: Children’s Education and Initial Years of Elementary School. In 1998, the course also started to offer the degree in Special Education. We stress that this article does not address in detail all aspects of the constitution of the Course of Pedagogy, a task which we believe impossible, and does not present an extensive list of statistical data either. The main goal of this article is to systematize the different directions and guidelines that the course has taken over the forty years of its existence.
