Abstract

Based on the sociological approach of the Administration field as a profession, the purpose of this survey is to assess how the actions developed by federal and regional representative councils contribute for profession knowledge in Brazil. According to Abbott’s perspective (1988), professions correspond to distinctive work groups that apply their abstract knowledge to particular cases. Morris (2002) and Morris et al. ( 2006) pointed out that it is precisely the recognition and development of this body of knowledge the most important asset in the professionalization of an activity. An exploratory-descriptive qualitative approach was conducted, using a longitudinal cut. Then, in addition to theoretical aspects, primary data were collected from individual interviews, questionnaires and personal testimonies, as well secondary data. These data were addressed using both document and content analysis techniques. As a main finding of this study, it is possible to affirm that the actions undertaken by the CFA/CRAs System have contributed positively to the activity. However, these actions were proved still inadequate to leverage legitimacy to the Management profession knowledge in Brazil.
