Abstract

Introduction: Obesity is increasing as the years pass by, regardless of factors like age, sex or social class.Thus, the food habits have an important paper for the health, for the ideal meal is prepared with healthyand varied food, and also in appropriate amount. Objective: This research tried to enlighten, through abibliographical revision, the effects of consuming breakfast to health regarding weight maintenance andreduction. Materials and methods: A search was realized based on data from PubMed with the topics“breakfast” and “obesity”. The research contemplated groups of people older than 19 years old. The searchresulted in 105 documents, of which only eight were used on the referred research. Results and conclusions:Starting from the obtained data, two studies highlighted that the consumption of fibers and eggsin the breakfast when combined with an appropriate diet helps the organism to maintain and lose weight.Other two researches affirmed that a not-homemade breakfast can contribute to a larger consumption ofcalories. From the total of researched articles, six of them pointed that the frequent habit of the breakfastconsumption helps the maintenance of the physiologic organism balance. It can be concluded that the dailyconsumption of breakfast is associated to a better functioning of the organism, not only for the healthand the functional balance, but for the weight maintenance and reduction as well.
