Abstract
The goal of this paper is to investigate the contexts in BrazilianPortuguese in which DPs are marked with nominative default Case, and to analyse the possibility of attributing default Case to the DPsin post-verbal position of sentences built with inaccusative verbs. The claim is that, if the verb shows agreement features, such DPswill check the nominative Case in the syntax; if the verb isuninflected for person and number, such DPs will receive a defaultCase marking in the morphological component.
Highlights
The goal of this paper is to investigate the contexts in Brazilian Portuguese in which DPs are marked with nominative default Case, and to analyse the possibility of attributing default Case to the DPs in post-verbal position of sentences built with inaccusative verbs
Também, que, como em todos os demais casos de ocorrência do Caso default, a forma tônica oblíqua não é possível, sem que ela esteja no contexto de um atribuidor de Caso, como uma preposição
O Programa Minimalista captura a impossibilidade de verbos inacusativos atribuírem Caso acusativo a seus complementos, sugerindo que sentenças construídas com esses verbos não têm a projeção de v, que é o núcleo que licencia, na sintaxe, o Caso acusativo de sentenças construídas com verbos transitivos
