Abstract

This article aims to discuss the participation of Brazil in the BRICS and how this group of countries can meet the aspirations of the country of having a bigger role on the international stage. A brief discussion of Brazilian foreign policy before the reordering of power in the contemporary international system is made. Key common goals that unite the BRICS countries, with the inflection point of the concepts of inclusive growth and sustainable solutions, will also be presented. This discussion will be in line with the role that historically the country has played in defending an agenda of development and sustainability, supported by the perennial characteristics of Brazilian diplomacy, as the emphasis on universalism, pacifism and multilateralism. Finally, it is intended to analyze the creation of the New Development Bank and its actual and symbolic power in the frame of the archaic world power, challenges and opportunities in financing development projects, vis a vis the power of pressure on international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
