Abstract
In this article we discuss the concept of love in psychoanalysis. Since Freud (1914/1996) it is known that in female patients it was identified a bigger necessity to love than be loved. In his Seminary about transference, Lacan (1960-1961/2010) deconstructs the idea the affective encounter as one of a completeness experience. Based in his study done upon Plato’s The Banquet, we discuss about the themes of the book, such as: the lover (erastes) and loved (eromenos) positions, the love metaphor and the agalma.
