Abstract

Most women adjust emotionally well to IVF, however about 20 to 30 percent develop emotional problems after unsuccessful treatment. Early identification of women at risk is a first step in the prevention of these emotional problems. A previous study identified pre treatment anxiety and depression, cognitions regarding fertility problems and social support as risk factors for emotional problems after IVF. In a new longitudinal study consisting of 355 women starting IVF in eight different fertility clinics in the Netherlands, the predictive value of a short screening tool assessing those identified risk factors was investigated, just as the sensitivity and specificity of the tool.
