Abstract

In vitro maturation of human oocytes holds great promise for assisted conception. However, conditions for oocytes matured in vitro are not optimized. Oxygen concentration has a significant effect on embryo development; however, optimal oxygen concentration for oocyte maturation remains undetermined. Furthermore, there is no consensus of appropriate medium supplementation during maturation. The objective of this study, therefore, was to determine whether oxygen tension (20% or 5%) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) affect oocyte physiology and subsequent embryo development.
