Abstract

Abstract Anna Lukkarinen shares real patient experiences from treatments along the infertility path. Focusing on the key points learned from these experiences, she highlights the important role that professionals have as contributors to patients’ emotional and physical well-being. In particular, she addresses the following themes: • Public side vs. private side treatments • Patient-professional power structures • Patient-patient encounters • Dealing with fear, sorrow, and longing • The encounters’ long-term effects It is important to remain aware that most patients enter the infertility path non-knowledgeable and inexperienced. For these outcomes of experiential learning to become accessible to all patients, old and new, they need to be internalized by patient-serving professionals.
