Abstract

Beliefs are generalized ideas about oneself and the world that are built from early experiences and are strengthened throughout life. They shape our perception and events interpretation. Beliefs related to sexuality play an important role in sexual behavior, and can influence the occurrence of both satisfactory experiences and sexual dysfunctions. Despite the growing recognition of female sexuality as a relevant aspect for the woman's quality of life, the experience of sexual pleasure unrelated to the loving or relational aspect seems to have less legitimacy. In this sense, the present study sought to analyze, in a sample of Brazilian women, the belief that love is fundamental for a good sexual relationship.
