Abstract

Abstract Transgender and gender diverse patients are increasingly being seen in fertility clinics for fertility preservation and/or family building, yet very little is known about the effects of gender-affirming hormones on reproductive capacity, precluding data-driven counseling. Specific to transmasculine individuals, human studies reporting the effects of gender-affirming testosterone on ovarian function are all observational in nature, many with only short-term testosterone exposure. Animal studies contribute to our understanding of the effect of testosterone on reproductive physiology, but have yet to be confirmed in humans. This lecture will review what is and isn't known about reproductive outcomes after gender-affirming testosterone, including whether testosterone can be continued during ovarian stimulation, and make suggestions for improving the clinical experience for transmasculine individuals seeking fertility care. Areas for future study will also be discussed.
