Abstract

The article explores a way of linguistic representation of the act of bribery in the discourse of the participants of this event. Bribery is an act that is prosecuted and morally condemned. Therefore, it is often referred to indirectly rather than directly in the speech of the people involved in this process. A briber giver and a bribe taker resort to linguistic mimicry, referring to the process of transferring a bribe and other related actions using terminology associated with other interactions involving the transfer of something from one person to another (e.g., gift, payment for services, bonus, etc.). It is also common to present a bribe as part of a mutually beneficial cooperation, for example, in the context of obligations set out in a contract. The genre of the contract and its elements become a respectable screen to hide the corruption process.
