Abstract

Abstract A NEW deepsea species Nymphon chaetochir (Pycnogonida, Nymphonidae) is described from three female specimens collected from deep water of the Chatham Rise, east of New Zealand. This new pycnogonid is characterised by having uniunguiculate legs, vestigial eyes on a low ocular tubercle, and heavily setose chelifores, and represents an addition to the uniunguiculate abyssal group of Nymphon, of which two species, N. longicoxa Hoek and N. galatheae Fage, were previously known from the New Zealand region.
