Abstract
TRITlCALE is a synthesized hexaphoid species of grain that combines the genomes of Triticum durum and Secale cereale (Sell et al., 1962). The grain was first tested in chick diets by Sell et al. (1962) and results of the test showed that Triticale was inferior compared to wheat for optimum performance. It was suggested that protein quality of the high protein grain was inferior to wheat. The growth response observed after the addition of methionine and lysine to Triticale diets indicated that both of these amino acids were limiting for chick growth in the grain tested.In the development of Triticale for agriculture use, several varieties have been selected.
