Abstract

The minimal essential nutritional requirements for stable, highly differentiated clonal and non-clonal cultures of mouse adrenal cortex tumor cells were found to agree qualitatively with results reported earlier by Eagle for other mammalian cell lines which varied widely as to species and tissue origin. A requirement for tryptophan, biotin or vitamin B 12 could not be positively established in the presence of low concentrations of dialyzed horse serum. It was not possible to demonstrate a loss in function without a parallel loss in total cellular protein under the experimental conditions cited.
