Abstract
Nursing study abroad trips are rising in popularity. Nursing students may travel the globe studying abroad, sometimes to locations where the culture, language, and healthcare practices are very different to what the students are used to. Study abroad trips are justified by Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) as learning opportunities that increase students’ cultural competence. Responding to an increasingly diverse patient population, study abroad trips provide students with a chance to learn about a culture different from their own to provide culturally appropriate care upon becoming newly qualified nurses.
