Abstract

BackgroundBranching path simulation (BPS) is an innovative computer, case scenario-based simulation. Prior to this study, no studies had examined the perceptions of students towards using this innovative learning method in nursing education. Therefore, this study aimed to explore undergraduate nursing students’ perceptions towards using BPS as an effective interactive learning method in nursing education. MethodThe current study had a quantitative evaluative design and a convenience sample of 44 undergraduate nursing students from different academic years. The students were exposed to four case scenarios about pain management in people with dementia (PWD). Data was collected using a paper-based survey developed by the researchers. Results and conclusionThe results showed the nursing students to perceive BPS positively in terms of design, usability, self-confidence in learning, and students’ satisfaction. However, a need was identified for further research which examines BPS as a complementary learning method incorporated into nursing curricula.
