Nursing of patients with tracheotomy and non-mechanical ventilation after liver transplantation

Abstract

Objective To sum up the nursing experience of patients with tracheotomy and non-mechanical ventilation after liver transplantation. Methods This paper collected the clinical information of 6 patients with tracheotomy and non-mechanical ventilation after liver transplantation from March 2009 to June 2016 in Beijing Chaoyang Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University. And then, this paper summed up the nursing experience especially in airway management so as to share with each other. Results There was one patient with a second mechanical ventilator because of severe infection. There were five patients recovering smoothly with improving pulmonary infection state gradually, blocking or removing tracheotomy tubes successfully. There was no patient with complications such as phlegm blocking, aspiration, new infection and so on. All patients were with good function of transplanted liver and pulmonary along with following up for nearly half a year. Conclusions The key of rehabilitation for patients with tracheotomy and non-mechanical ventilation after liver transplantation includes managing phlegm appropriately, wetting airway fully, preventing aspiration and infection positively, and blocking tracheotomy tubes early.
