Abstract

The article “Regional Variation in Mortality and Subsequent Hospitalization of Nursing Residents with Heart Failure”1 is an important contribution to the heart failure (HF) literature, particularly because it provides a novel perspective on HF management for nursing home residents. Instead of focusing exclusively on medications, devices, and/or procedures, it describes differences in mortality and rehospitalization in relation to geography and size of the facilities. Therefore, it introduces the concept that facility features and processes drive clinical outcomes, perhaps even beyond other therapeutic measures.
