Abstract

The commonest cardiac condition encountered in dogs is valvular heart disease—an abnormality of the valves within the heart leading to heart failure. The full title for this disease is chronic degenerative mitral valve disease (CDMVD) and it is most frequently seen in older, small and medium breed dogs, especially Cavalier King Charles spaniels (Figures 1 and 2).
