Abstract

Nursing retention is critical for health care organization success. Reasons for nurses exiting their current organizations include access to professional growth explicitly aligned with the individual nurse’s purpose. One health care system sought to address this need with the creation of the nurse career coach (NCC) to support nurses in exploring roles that align with their individual passion and purpose. Through the coaching process, professional growth, nurse retention, and empowerment of nurses have been experienced as a result. Our evaluation revealed a 96% retention rate. The article details NCC design, implementation, and evaluation, including factors describing spread, sustainability, and scale.
