Abstract

Nursing the newborn requiring assisted ventilation and intensive care is complex and challenging. New born receiving assisted ventilation and intensive care require multidisciplinary care provided by nurses, physicians and respiratory therapist etc. The nurses provide a vital link between the patient and the multidisciplinary team because of their proximity to the patient and due to their knowledge and skill at interpreting physiologic, behavioral and technological information. Neonatal nurse does hour by hour assessment and provides care to each patient in the NICU. Neonatal nurse serves as the infant's link to the environment, often serving as interpreter for the infant through careful assessment of the vital parameters and behavioral responses. They help to determine each individual infant's response to the treatment.
