Abstract

Background: Survival rates for children who require intensive care for thetreatment of life-threatening illness or injury have dramatically improved worldwide. Inpediatric critical care, decreased mortality has been accompanied by increased morbidity.This has resulted in a shift in the contemporary focus of the international critical carecommunity from mortality reduction alone to the optimization of survivor outcomes. Aim:to assess nurses' knowledge and their practices regarding post intensive care syndrome ofcritically ill pediatric patients. Method: adescriptivedesign has been used to conduct thisstudy in the Pediatric Medical Intensive Care Unit affiliated with the Mansoura UniversityChildren's Hospital, was conducted withall available nurses in pediatric intensive caresetting. Data was collected by using a questionnaire sheet for socio-demographiccharacteristics and knowledge and observational checklists for practices were used tocollect data. Results: the vast majority of the studied nurses had insufficient knowledgeabout post intensive care syndrome and ABCDEF bundleand almost of them hadunsatisfactory practices about ABCDEF bundle. Recommendation: it is recommended toimplement educational intervention for nurses about post intensive care syndrome toimprove their knowledge and practices about PICS and ABCDEF bundle.
