Abstract
Summary If it appears that the development of orthopaedic surgery is dominated by men, then it is very clear that the history of orthopaedic nursing is dominated by women. In the first two articles in this series reference was made to Agnes Hunt the ‘mother' of orthopaedic nursing. Before embarking on the military background to nursing in general and trauma nursing in particular it would seem pertinent to document Agnes's history.
