Abstract

Mergers can cause high anxiety for nurses. The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine nurses’ emotional responses and experiences with senior leaders’ use of language, action, and behavior during a time of intense organizational change. Branding, allocations of resources, restructuring maneuvers, and leader connection wrapped in contextual fabrics were surfaced by interviews with clinical nurses. Fostering aesthetic responses and emotional judgments may help nurses feel something and to act. Mergers can cause high anxiety for nurses.
