Abstract

One of the recommendations from the landmark Future of Nursing (FON) report was that nurses should be offered residences, extended periods of training at the point of transition to practice (Institute of Medicine, 2011). The recommendation around the development of nurse residencies was fairly straightforward; i.e. a broad group of agencies (nursing, state, federal and health care organizations) should support nurses' transition to practice programs for both newly graduated RNs and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs).
