Abstract

Nurse executives experience stress, burnout, moral injury, and moral distress, equal or greater than their staffs’, due to the psychological extremes of their healthcare role. The emotional health of these executives suffers. The stigma associated with mental health issues impacts the fact that limited research exists on this topic. Interventions are provided to understand, manage, and support nurse executives as they work to protect their own mental health and relieve the effects of stress in their organizations.
