Abstract

James W. Hayward died at the age of 79 on February 25, 1977. He received his B.S. degree in animal husbandry in 1921 from Purdue University and his Ph.D. degree in biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin in 1935.From 1935 to 1960 he was Head of the Department of Nutrition of Archer Daniels Midland Company. From 1960 to 1964 he was Director of Nutrition for the Soybean Council of America.Hayward’s Ph.D. research at Wisconsin and his work with the Archer Daniels Midland Company resulted in pioneer developments in the processing and utilization of soybean meal.He is survived by his widow, Mrs. James W. Hayward, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a son, John; and two daughters, Mary Huff and Barbara Slater.
