Abstract

Steel composite continuous bridges can take full advantage of concrete and steel, but in the region with hogging moment, concrete deck cracking is a big issue. In order to solve the crack problem within the hogging moment region, this study proposes method using UHPC-RC composite deck. By this way, the layers of UHPC and RC are combined to take advantage of the high tensile strength of UHPC, so as to improve the crack capacity of the concrete deck within the hogging moment region. A finite element model of composite deck is established. Numerical study is developed to study the regularity of crack development of different thickness of UHPC and find the reasonable UHPC layer thickness which is suitable for the composite deck.
