Abstract

An indirect expansion solar assisted multifunctional heat pump (IE-SAMHP) is investigated in this study. The IE-SAMHP consists of an all-glass evacuated-tube solar collector system, a compressor, two air-cooled heat exchangers, a water-cooled heat exchanger and a hot water tank. The multifunctional heat pump with dual heat sources can operate in three different modes: space cooling in summer, space heating in winter and water heating all the year. In this paper, different operating modes in various conditions are discussed, and a simulation program is developed to evaluate the performance of the heat pump system in water heating mode. The results show that the coefficient of performance (COP) of the heat pump system can be higher than 2.0 for most the time.
