Abstract

The benchmark calculation for a preliminary thermal mixing experiment in the B&C Loop facility was performed to develop a thermal mixing model in quenching tank using CFX4.4. A steam discharge through the sparger and the condensation phenomenon were modeled with the choking flow and the condensation region model to generate the velocity and the temperature of the condensed water for the boundary condition of CFX4.4. The transient calculation results at about 30 seconds show a good agreement to the temperature distribution with that of experiment. Therefore, we can anticipate that CFX4.4 with the condensation region model can simulate the thermal mixing behavior in a quenching tank when the steam is discharged. And also, we can expect that the numerical model for the thermal mixing taking place for a long time in the IRWST of APR1400 may be developed by this method.
