Abstract

The flow of viscous fluid in a channel with progressive waves of wall contraction is numerically studied as a two-dimensional model of peristaltic flow. In order to clarify the flow connected with peristaltic motion, the peristaltic flow of viscous fluid through a channel with progressive waves of wall contraction is investigated for the following various parameters: the Reynolds number, wave length, amplitude of contractive wave, and pressure gradient along the channel. As the results, the rate of fluid transport by the peristaltic motion is shown as a function of these parameters.
