Abstract

Numerical simulations are performed on the lattice massive Schwinger model with Kogut-Susskind fermions, using a recently developed ``look-ahead'' fermion Monte Carlo algorithm, on lattices of up to 100\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}100 sites. Excellent agreement is found with results of mass perturbation theory about the massless two-flavor continuum exact solution. Significant deviations are found from the quenched approximation at small fermion masses. Because of the speed of the algorithm and the larger statistical fluctuations present in the quenched data, simulations of the full system including dynamical fermions do not take significantly greater processing time than do quenched simulations of comparable statistical accuracy.
