Abstract
Numerical investigations of the unsteady flow field and the associated acoustic noise of perfectlyexpanded supersonic jet were performed numerically. The near and mid-field flow fields are obtained by an axisymmetric Euler solver. The numerical solver is based on a third-order upwind finite-volume scheme in space and a secondorder explicit Runge-Kutta scheme in time. Far field noise is then obtained from the Kirchhoff's method. Details of the density distribution, pressure distribution, and sound pressure level with different jet conditions were investigated. By using the correlation method, the convective Mach numbers of a series of jet conditions are computed. As the convective Mach number is greater than one, the Mach waves from the exhaust of the supersonic jet were clean shown in the density and pressure contours. The coaxial jet is then investigated to suppress the jet noise.
