Abstract

AbstractThe resistance projection welding (RPW) of nuts using the pneumatic electrode force system was subjected to thorough numerical and experimental analysis, enabling the identification of the processing window of welding parameters due to its importance of in the auto manufacturing. The purpose of this study is to study the influence of process parameters like welding currents, welding time and electrode pressure on the properties and microstructure of welding joint of nut in resistance projection welding. To enhance the understanding the microstructure transformation of metal structure during welding, a commercial finite element software COMSOL is used to build 2D&3D models for the numerical simulation analysis of the process. Several parameters that affect the microstructure and strength of the joint, such as welding time, welding current and electrode pressure, are analyzed and the optimized values are recommended. The sensitivity of temperature to electrode voltage is found, which can be used to optimize process parameters. KeywordsWelding parametersResistance projection weldingFEM simulation
