Abstract

AbstractIt is widely known that Proportional Navigation (PN) is an optimal guidance law in linearized setting. However, it is not clear how large the gap between PN and nonlinear optimal guidance law is. This paper attempts to show the similarity and difference between PN and nonlinear optimal guidance law by numerical analysis. The nonlinear optimal guidance problem is first formulated as an optimal control problem by considering the final velocity as the performance index. Then, the PN and nonlinear optimal guidance law are compared by using exact optimization methods.KeywordsOptimal guidanceControl effortTerminal velocity
