Abstract

We present here an attempt of a numerical solution for the rate of propagation of fatigue cracks in welded joints. The analysis included the stiffness coefficient of the stress state in the path of a crack. The suggested prediction method is based on a mechanical model of crack growth with a FEM solution for the crack tip. The technique was implemented in a “FORTRAN-77” file of computer programs for the stress-strain state and crack propagation studies in welded joints for variable level of cyclic loading, static and cyclic behaviour of the metal in different parts of the welds and for different locations of cracks.
