Abstract

In this paper we calculate the conductance of weakly disordered small wires (with their lengths L much larger than the typical width) by a direct numerical evaluation of the Kubo formula within the Anderson model. We confirm a number of previous results for the conductance fluctuations in mesoscopic systems including ergodicity, the behavior of the conductance-fluctuation correlation function, and the size independence of the conductance fluctuations for L${L}_{i}$, where ${L}_{i}$ is the inelastic scattering length. For L>${L}_{i}$ we find that the conductance fluctuations scale as (${L}_{i}$/L${)}^{3/2}$ in agreement with recent experimental data.
