Abstract

In the work, we present the results of a numerical study of the combustion initiation of the lean propane–air mixture under the conditions of an homogeneous-charge-compression-ignition engine. We show that preliminary discharge treatment could accelerate the ignition and study how the size of discharge area, specific input energy and other parameters influence upon the delay time. The role of chemical reactions occurring during the compression cycle (before discharge treatment) is also discussed.
