Abstract

In this paper, a whole process resistance analysis of the concrete target impacted by the high-speed rigid projectile is presented. Combining the SPH method with the established rate-dependent Perzyna-type visco-damage constitutive relationship, the behaviors of concrete targets under rigid bullet impact are simulated, which is validated by test data. The investigation into the relationship between the acceleration and the velocity of rigid bullets reveals that the resistance of concrete under impact is composed of two parts: a velocity-independent static term provided by the solid component and a velocity power function term provided by the component that is converted into pseudoplastic fluid due to high-speed striking. Finally, the analytic formulae are built using the power-law resistance model, which can predict penetration depths at different initial velocities as well as the movement of the bullet.
