Abstract

This study investigates the internal baffle effect on reducing sway coupled with sloshing motion response. Various baffle schemes are proposed and the suppressing effect on the sway motion response is studied for a rectangular section box. Numerical simulations suggest that the horizontal baffles with shallow submerged depth can reduce the sway motion response remarkably. Proper baffles can reduce the sway-sloshing motion in large scale and make the ship sway motion amplitude similar as that without sloshing effect. In consideration of filling depths, the multiple layer horizontal baffles are suggested for suppressing the coupled sway-sloshing motion response.
