Abstract

Based on the physical module of a coupled hydrodynamical-ecological model for regional shelf seas, the physical background information field including circulation, temperature and salinity of the East China Sea is numerically simulated with the sea surface completely forced. The circulation simulation represents the seasonal variations of Kuroshio, Taiwan Warm Current, Changjiang Diluted Water and coastal currents in the East China Sea. The temperature and salinity simulations confirm the reliability of this model by comparison with corresponding publicly available data and indicate from the general trend the seasonal changes of temperature and salinity distributions in this region. The simulation results provide relatively complete and reasonable physical background information fileds for the future researches on marine ecological and environmental issues in the East China Sea.
